Backyard Hope for the Weekend-The Sequel

Okay, so yes, for the second week in a row, I'm blogging about my garden. I promise... coffeebrained.com won't morph into a gardening blog completely (though maybe in the summer). But I'd feel remiss if I didn't follow-up last week's report with some new developments.

In case you missed it, last week I shared how uplifting it is to tour our backyard garden. It's an instant hope-boost to see progress everyday. The more you put into it, the more you get out. Our buds are turning into veggie babies, leaves are spreading wide, stalks are thickening, and more tiny flowers appear daily. Our excitement is growing along with our plants!

But this week, I've captured a few hopeful surprises. Like this...

Bee pollinating cucumber flower

Our cucumber plant has played host to this welcomed visitor many times this week. It's a good sign--cucumber plants need pollination to grow cucumbers, as explained in this helpful article. That we have bees doing the work for us, saves us the trouble, and should give us better cucumbers. And it helps them, too... win-win.

While watering this week, I jumped at another surprise...

Frog in Sweet Potato Plant

A little friend has made a home in our sweet potato sack. Need a closer look?

Frog

He's a cute fella... though I did scream when I first spotted eyes staring at me. Now, I look for him whenever I water. I'm thinking of naming him. Any ideas? I'm partial to Clyde for some reason.

Finally, last week I introduced the Mamma Bird living in our purple vertical bed behind the petunias. Well, I snapped a shot of her babies...

Baby Birds

Three fuzzy baby birds now share our garden... We should charge rent. Every time we approach, the babies open their mouths. Cute little things! I wonder what Jimothy would think of them...

Jimothy the Cat

Hmm... given his pursuit of flies and other bugs lately, it's too dangerous to find out.

I like solitary pursuits, such as reading or pottering about in the garden. - Hayley Mills

Amen, sister. Also... didn't you love her in The Parent Trap?

Now to work on other blogs (not about gardening)...

Share your garden hopes or surprises, name suggestions for the frog or baby birds, or tell me what Jimothy is thinking below... What is he thinking? Murder?
